Hi – Want a tree in front of your house? Know someone who does? Have you seen a patch of sidewalk and thought “I’m gonna ask that homeowner or businessperson if they could put a tree here!”? Click here for application
Simply complete this form – Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) will cut the curb and provide an appropriate species FREE – you just need to:
be available in April to pick up the tree (we pick them up at 3rd and Dickinson – trees are bare root so they are light enough to walk back to your house)
plant the tree (you’ll need a shovel)
There are simple planting and care instructions at the PHS Tree Tenders site online.
Two simple rules:
1. Bury the bare root but leave the flare of the tree (the bulge at the base of the tree, just above the roots) exposed just above the dirt;
2. Buy a gatorbag or drill holes in a 5-gallon bucket and fill with water each week 2-3 times for the first two years.
Be detailed on the diagram when indicating where you want the curb cut – indicate which square on your sidewalk.
We will start by meeting at 329 Dickinson Street at 10:00 for a cup of coffee and a quick snack as we break out into planting and mulching groups. You should be done and on your way home by 12:00.
This plant will once again have work for everyone (planting, watering, transporting, mulching, weeding, pit care and leaf pickup). Please come, even invite a friend and help us plant lots of new trees! All levels of experience and work load are welcome, there will be something for every level, kids too. Bring a shovel, gloves or a broom if you have one. Many of our trees will go to Jefferson Square Park whose Friends Group has been busy. Make sure to stop by and enjoy a stroll and the fruits of many hands at work there this fall.
Thanks for your help in our past plantings…looking forward to adding a bit more green to our neighborhoods together.
